In this colloquium, we will explore the book 《Biography of Chugeum Kang Wi: A Misfortunate Poet Hustling Behind the Scenes of International Politics》 (Somyeong Publishing, 2024), which examines the life of Kang Wi, a notable figure of the late Joseon Dynasty and a member of the Enlightenment Party. Kang's life was one of seeing the established order, including his own origins, institutional customs, and the ruling ideology of the time, in a fresh light, while imagining a new order. Even when he was branded a heretic and suppressed by the world, he chose to walk a path that ultimately fueled the rise of heresy and radicalism. We invite you to join us on this journey of deeply exploring Kang ’s life and the world he experienced.
