SNU Data Science Seminar September 11 (Wednesday) at 9 AM: "Visual Relational Language," Professor Wolfgang Gatterbauer

Sep 11, 2024

Understanding the intent of natural language expressed through text is not simple due to its ambiguity in the era of generative AI. In contrast, relational languages, which have developed based on relational calculus in the field of databases, are formally defined but often difficult to grasp intuitively. Visual languages are tools that enable users to express their intent intuitively through diagrams.

This week's speaker is Professor Wolfgang Gatterbauer from Northeastern University in the United States, who has been researching visual relational language.

Professor Gatterbauer earned his Master’s in Electrical and Computer Engineering from MIT, a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering from TU Graz in Austria, and a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from TU Wien. After serving as an Assistant Professor at the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University, he has been a Professor of Computer Science at Northeastern University since 2017.

Title: Visual Representations of Relational Queries and the Pattern Expressiveness of Relational Languages
Time: 2024. 09. 11. (Wed) 09:00 ~ 10:30
